Since the summer semester 2005, the Berlin Weissensee School of Art has offered a postgraduate Masters course in Art Therapy, in cooperation with Kunsttherapie Berlin, Kolleg für Weiterbildung und Forschung.
Art Therapy makes use of artists’ materials, pictures and sculpture, as well as artistic processes themselves, as a means for patients/clients to express their experiences, thoughts, feelings and fantasies. These artistic processes and products are used to help patients/clients become aware of their hidden feelings, desires, memories and problems, as well as helping them recognise their abilities. In this way, art therapy can help people gain a better understanding of themselves, explore their lives and experiment with changes. Applicants for this three-year, part-time course, which is aimed at those remaining in work, must have successfully completed a university or university-level course in a subject related to art, education, psychology, medicine or the social sciences. They must also demonstrate an artistic aptitude, the equivalent of around one year’s full-time work experience in a social profession and have reached the age of 25.
Fees: 3,120 euro/year
Final qualification: “Master of Arts“
