Industrial Design

The course Industrial Design is divided into a four-year Bachelor’s course and a one-year Masters. Students spend the first year of the Bachelor’s course learning the basics of art and design in an interdisciplinary course together with students from other courses at the School. The following three years of the Bachelors course aim to produce competent and independent designer personalities. Students are taught a wide range of academic and design knowledge, methods and skills. Graduate designers should be in a position to work responsibly and independently with regard to social, economic, cultural, technological and environmental aspects. For this reason, the course emphasises the development of students’ capacity to think critically and to work and think in an academic way. A central place is given in the course to concept development and design.

Students on the one-year Masters course that follows on from the Bachelors gain a more profound understanding of the complex challenges posed by important problem areas in our civilisation. Students pursue their own stance on material and non-material product development in a responsible and reasonable way. This involves project work within the areas of “Interaction Design" and "Design and Mobility".
