Redefine the Symbiosis

Tanguy Fraiture

The project began with a research through participative observation in farms around Berlin.

How can a design practice improve the living conditions of livestock animals? The strategy is to support ethical forms of breeding with a focus on a specific dairy farming system: the cow-bonded calf rearing. In contrast to the conventional way, calves are not separated from their mothers at birth and grow in contact with adult cows.

To compensate for the lack of milk obtained and the reduced income of the breeder, a milking system and a label for this rearing system are conceived.
