Wintersemester 2018/2019, BA/MA Visuelle Kommunikation VK_2019

❀ Typografie, 2019

The main goals of this course are to identify, distinguish, analyze, and document typefaces in order to provide insights into micro-and macrotypography. During the first week of the course, we classify and observe typefaces that appear in Berlin’s public spaces. The second part of the course entails examining a font (family) that the students have to present and describe in the form specimen. The third part covers typeface applications, a brief introduction to the rules of microtypography, and explanations of the principles underlying book design. The students explore the points at which type becomes an image and learn about the contexts in which legibility should take top priority.
